Support for Caregivers

Who is a caregiver?

Why is it okay to ask for help?

What services are available through Senior& Disabled Services for the caregiver?

Who is a caregiver?
Caregivers are family, friends, neighbors, partners and others who care for those they love as they face chronic illness or disability. Caregivers provide essential but unpaid services to keep their loved ones, at home, safe, and as healthy as possible.

Why is it okay to ask for help?
To be a successful, responsive, loving caregiver you can not do it alone. If you are caring for someone with memory loss, confusion or a chronic physical illness, it can be stressful and exhausting. All caregivers share a common bond with each other despite the individual caregiving situation. It is important for you to take care of yourself by reaching out to friends, family, other caregivers, and supportive community resources. For help call (541) 682-4038 and ask to speak to the Family Caregiver Specialist.

What services are available through Senior & Disabled Services?
Caregiver support is provided by Senior & Disabled Services through various funding sources:

Medicaid (Title XIX) funded in-home services are available to persons with significant personal care needs and have limited monthly income and financial resources. For more information about Medicaid funded in-home services, see the In-Home Care Resources page.

Oregon Project Independence (OPI) is an in-home program funded by the State Legislature for older Oregonians (60+ years of age), and for those individuals less than 60 years of age with dementia. It helps people who are not financially eligible for Medicaid-funded in-home care, but who have significant care needs. For more information about OPI, see the Oregon Project Independence page.

Senior & Disabled Services’ Lane County Family Caregiver Support Program provides an integrated package of services including, information and assistance, respite, training and support to unpaid caregivers caring for an older adult (age 60+ years of age) or a grandparent or relative caregiver (55+ years of age) caring for grandchildren 18 years of age or under. For more information about S&DS Family Caregiver Support Program, see the Family Caregiver Support Program page.
