Medicare Coverage

The most common insurance coverage that seniors and people with disabilities carry is called Medicare. Medicare is the national health insurance program for people 65 years of age and older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure with dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD). Beginning in January 2006, Medicare will offer help paying for prescriptions.

A useful website to answer your questions about Medicare is www.medicare.gov. A summary of Medicare benefits (PDF format), rights and protections, and answers to the most frequently asked questions about Medicare is available from the program.

For information on the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Program, see our Medicare Part D informational page.
