Senior Meals Program

Those attending the Café 60 dining rooms provided by the Senior Meals Program live independently in their own homes and benefit from meal-time companionship and the very low cost, well balanced meals. Many find that attending these meals stretches their grocery budget.

Who is eligible for the Café 60?

  • You are eligible for the meal if you or your spouse is 60 or older, regardless of income.
  • You do not have to be low income to attend.
  • Persons under age 60 are eligible under the following circumstances:
    • Person is a resident in a housing facility where a meal is served (Riverview Terrace in Cottage Grove, Cresview Villa in Creswell, Olive Plaza and Jacobs Lane in Eugene); or
    • Person is a disabled dependent child living in a non-institutional household with a person over age 60 and accompanies the senior to the meal.

How much will I be charged for a meal?
There is no charge for the meal, but donations are appreciated. The suggested donation is $3.00 in the dining rooms, but every eligible person is served regardless of the amount contributed. Guests under age 60 are welcome to attend for $8.00 per meal.

What is on the menu?

  • We specialize in home-baked breads, gravies and sauces are non-fat, salad dressings are low fat.
  • You have a choice between two main dishes each day.
  • The first entree choice on the regular menu averages less than 800 calories per meal; 30 percent of calories are from fat and each meal contains 1.5 grams, or less, of sodium.
  • If you are diabetic or limit your salt intake, please select the entree with the heart symbol.

How can I help?

Volunteer!
The Senior Meals Program has year around volunteer needs in each community dining room. See the Volunteer page for more information about becoming a Senior Meals volunteer.

Gifts!
The Senior Meals Program is only partially Federally funded and receives no State, County, City or United Way support. Participants give to the program through their meal donations and, in many cases, by volunteering.

Community gifts to the Senior Meals Program supplement the participants’ meal donations and limited public funds to ensure that nourishing meals can be served to our older neighbors.
Gifts can be designated to a particular community or to help the program as a whole.  Gifts can be made:

  • For the current needs of the Senior Meals Program
  • To the Senior Meals Program Endowment Fund to supply future income
  • By check or credit card; to view and print the recent letter to donors, click here.
  • By giving through a bequest, a will, an insurance policy or stock transfer
  • Monthly, by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from your credit card or checking account
  • By adding Senior Meals Program to your monthly bill paying option at your bank or Internet bill paying service
  • If you would like to donate online, click here.

Gifts to the Senior Meals Program are deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Call (541) 682-4378 or e-mail skarsten@lcog.org for more information about contributing to the Senior Meals Program.
